Donairs!

Ahhhhhhhh donairs! A fave dish hailing from Canada’s east coast with a Turkish flair. I saw a recipe floating around on Facebook last year and set to work recreating it DYB style.

You will need:

Donair meat:

3 lbs lean ground beef

2 tsp flour

2 tsp Mediterranean Seasoning Blend

1.5 tsp cayenne

3 tsp paprika

2 tsp Chive n Onion

3 tsp For The Love Of Garlic

1 tsp pepper

1 tsp salt

1/4 cup olive oil

Spice it up!

Toss all ingredients into your stand mixer and let the paddle beat the crap out of them for awhile. Medium speed (I split it in half and went 5 minutes with each half)

Shape into a loaf and toss into a 300 degree f oven (works best if you have a rack and tray for drippings underneath, you don’t really want the meat sitting in it’s drippings) 2.5 hours cook time.

Beat the crap outta the meat

It’s loaf-ish shaped

Sweet sauce:

1 can sweetened condensed milk

1/3 cup vinegar

1 tsp garlic powder

Mix well, chill while meat is cooking so flavours get a chance to mingle.

mmmmmmmmmm

Once the meat is done, place it on a cutting board (don’t do what I did and risk wrecking a knife haha) and slice thin.

Cutting board, use a damn cutting board

Add meat, veggies (tomato and onion is the purists choice, you can add some romaine and cucumber if you like) and sweet sauce to a warmed up pita. Wrap it up and eat. I also like a bit of sriracha on mine.

Eat. Eat another.
